Arek Sak developed his love for drawing early on in life while growing up in his native Poland. His family moved to the United States when Arek was 8 years old, and it was there that the self-taught artist continued refining his craft and technique. Arek would go on to study Fine Arts at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, majoring in Illustration. Today, he is an illustrator and portrait artist based out of Connecticut, USA.
Arek has always been interested in people and the technical process that is involved in bringing them to life using traditional and illustrative skills. Using his passion for portrait drawing as the main structure, Arek draws strong influence from the world of pop-culture to create illustrations that reflect his personal interests and inspirations, which include film, music, comics, and sports. This allows him to present the broad audience with familiar subject matter, allowing them to approach the work with an eye toward the illustrative and technical aspects of the piece.
The creation of the work is often labor-intensive and leaning toward the literal/realistic. This creative process requires an attention to detail and craftsmanship that drives Arek to constantly improve his technical abilities. The work is created using a range of mediums including graphite, colored pencils, charcoal, ink, watercolor/gouache, and acrylic paint. Portraits are referenced from photography, as this allows for a greater degree of detail and believability.
